About this assembly
"We envision neighborhoods functioning like ecosystems; where what is needed is provided by the community itself, where people feel a sense of belonging and know and support each other." Sugar Cup makes online communication within a neighbourhood possible and easy. Its purpose is to facilitate connection, interaction, support and a circular economy among neighbours. Sugar Cup is a social non-profit initiative founded by neighbors and unlike other social platforms, on Sugar Cup you only receive messages from neighbors who live near you - about 1 km. That is to foster interaction between people you would actually meet on the neighbourhood.
What can you do with Sugar Cup?
Sugar Cup is a free and local platform for exchange with your neighbours. Here you can get to know your neighbours and together with them shape your neighbourhood and bring it to life. You can publish items on Sugar Cup that you no longer need; to request to borrow an item; to post relevant information, news, or events for your neighbours; to ask and offer support; to meet people who share your same interests, etc... It is important to know that you will only be shown activities within a radius of 1 km - i.e. exactly in your neighbourhood. Participation is free of charge.
Who is behind Sugar Cup and how did the idea of Sugar Cup come about in the first place?
The whole thing started in the spring of 2021, when we realized how little we actually really know, support and exchange in the neighborhood. We also found it sad how often things (bookshelves, sofas, TVs, etc.) were dumped on the street that were actually still intact and surely someone else would have been happy about it - had they known. On the other hand, we saw that many still exchanged, but via digital channels. Unfortunately, most of the time also rather anonymously and then not really in the neighborhood, but rather widely.
This gave rise to the idea of creating a digital platform where people could network within the same neighborhood. For a few months, we told our neighborhood about our idea and met with such a positive response. Then we started working on the idea and programming this platform ourselves. And since mid-November, the first version of Sugar Cup is online and running! We are very happy to build a digital neighborhood together with you!
And who is we? We are Martha and Roy from Zurich, Albisrieden.
